Review of A Band Called Death (2013) by Andrew P — 30 Jul 2013
This documentary defied all expectations. Come on, an all-black punk band from Detroit in 1973 - that alone would have been enough to make me move heaven and earth to watch this movie. That the music is sublime and wildly addictive - well I was hooked, but what really distinguishes this project from others of the genre is the emotional sincerity, intelligence and articulation of the surviving band members.
This is homage to genius unrecognized and that tragedy infuses and haunts this wonderful film.
