Review of A Band Called Death (2013) by Vuk O — 20 Oct 2013
Death - not the metal band, these guys came before them - is an amazing all-black punk rock band from the seventies, and most likely it is the first punk band ever, one that never made it big, but has resurfaced with lots of hype over the last couple of years.
The story of their near-success, troubles with being a black rock band with a name so grim, no record company wanted to sign them, despite their original sound, is a story of family, tragedies, bonding and living through art.
It would make a great music documentary, but this isn't it. This isn't a MUSIC documentary about the three brothers who were Death, it's a family documentary, and it should have been a TV documentary featured on The Oprah Winfrey Network.
If you wanted to find out about Death and their music, listen to their debut album, Google them, read about them on Wikipedia, check out some interviews, just don't waste your time with this tedious tearjerker of a film.
A complete waste of time, with maybe fifteen to twenty minutes of material actually worth watching.
