Review of 99 Homes (2015) by Steve W — 11 Oct 2015
The movie is two-thirds great, with a whimpering and anti-climactic finale that doesn't bite as much as the rest of the film. A blue collar single father loses his house, and ends up making a deal with the devil of sorts, in Rich Carver, an unscrupulous and crooked real estate agent.
The movie does well as a character study, and shows our protagonist crossing each one, becoming more like the antagonist. By the film's end, it fizzles out and isn't as good as its initial set up, and fails to give out any resolution.
