Review of 99 Francs (2007) by Silvia O — 08 Mar 2009

I didn't find much about this movie was enjoyable. I found it was mainly trashy, though I understand that there film-makers are trying to make a point by satirizing the immoral lifestyle of such people as Octave. The thing is, I don't think they can honestly expect people to take that message seriously when they themselves don't seem to be taking their movie as a serious one.

Oh, and as for the humor, I laughed twice seeing it... once during a silly scene where various silly boyfriends make silly speeches to their pregnant girlfriends because they can't deal with the fact that they've fathered a child. The one other time was while watching the "Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis" trailer before the beginning of the movie. I mean, some people might find obscene and vulgar scenes amusing, or might laugh their heads off seeing Jean Dujardin puke on a naked woman's body, but I don't. I guess I'm weird.
