Review of 8MM (1999) by Lee K — 04 Sep 2009
Picked this up the other day at the local HMV for 5.99 (once again gotta love the prices on alot of these DVDs since Blu Ray came into the world).
Hadn't seen it since it was released to dvd in '99 and pretty much had forgotten the storyline so in turn it was like watching it for the first time, something I love about older movies that dont get aired or you dont see them around very often. One of the better acting jobs done by Nick Cage here he did a solid job as a p.i. who is hired by a rich elderly lady after the passing of her husband, finds a 8mm film locked in his private safe, this is ordinary home movie however, its way more and so she hires Nick to investigate to find the girl in the film and who she is and what not which leads Mr. Cage into meeting alot of seedy scumbag charectors and if he's not to careful pulling him into a world we all know quietly exists but we would all like to forget. James Gandolfini and Joaquim Phoenix co stars and how funny is it when you originally see these older flicks you think hmmmm? relative unknowns starring with Nick Cage, little did I know one would become one of my top 5 fave actors and the other none other then Tony Soprano from HBO's hit show The Sopranos lol Its a small world. Overall a good thriller that has one of the most weirdest soundtracks I have ever heard on a film.
