Review of 88 Minutes (2007) by Keenan S — 04 Aug 2011
Am I the only one that found this film vaugely creepy, not in a good way but an uncomfortable, older man leering over younger women, way. And that is exactly what we get here, an aging Pacino, well past his best, surrrounded by hollywood starlets.
I did expect more from this film, mainly becuse I have been really enjoying Justified, which Avnet has also been involved in a Directing capacity. And because I still expect Pacino to be good. Well he wasn't and if i'm truthful, he hasn't been for some time. The last time I actually enjoyed him was in Nolan's Insomnia, which is odd that I should think of that now because Pacino still seems to be playing Detective Dormer, still giving that almost terminaly tired, mumbling exausted performance for most of this film. And that was a major problem because they set up his character as being some high power consulting forensic psychiatrist, adorded and desired as a university professor by his femalel students and his teaching assistant, and that was just streating the truth too far.
I also had a major problem with what happened with the plot such as it was and the end is just plainly ridiculous, with many 'how did she if he can barely?!?!... moments. Just silly and stupid in large parts.
