Review of 84 Charing Cross Road (1987) by Todd F — 29 Aug 2009
This is one of those films that has a nice magical feel to it, even though you can't exactly work out why. It just leaves you with a smile on your face for some reason. The storyline about an American authoress exchanging letters with a bookshop in post-World War II London is not what makes the film so engrossing, it's everything else that's happening in the background like the archive footage of the Queen's coronation on the old black and white telly, and the shots of Westminster in the background.
Totally charming!
