Review of 84 Charing Cross Road (1987) by Wizard W — 29 Jan 2007
A true story closely based on a collection of letters of Helene Hanff, this movie is a gem of the cinema. Just after WWII, Helene Hanff, a "poor scriptreader/writer" began to procure used books of English Literature from Marks & Co.
, a bookshop located at 84 Charing Cross Road in London. This film makes used book stores & love of old books into a type of romantic. In this era of instant messaging, emails, telephones, etc. it is wonderful to think that people can actually develop relationships over the course of years through snell mail.
