Review of 8 Women (2002) by Wes K — 16 Mar 2009
Goofy. I know that's a high-brow cinematic critique of this movie, but I can't think of a better word. Entertaining, and yet...the musical pieces don't quite seem to flow naturally from the emotion in the scenes.
The staging is very theatrical, making the shots a bit boring. Dialog is non-stop, interspersed with screeds, rants, philosophies, moralizing. The mystery tries to hard to obfuscate, making the murderer obvious (at least to me).
The actresses performed well with what they were given, and it was a treat to see so many great French actresses in one film. That alone is worth watching.
