Review of 8 Mile (2002) by Nat A — 25 Apr 2014
Because of its resemblance to the Rocky story (hip-hop version in this case), it is sure to win many hearts and have them cheering. But amidst the typical underdog struggle, is a film that is able to capture the underground battle rap scene that was prevalent in the art form and is able to convey the surrounding conflicts of a man who struggles to find himself in a genre that is predominately black.
The symbolism is not immense but it exists and is given a new zest.
