Review of '71 (2014) by Grant S — 16 Aug 2015
Good, tense action-drama.
Belfast, Northern Ireland, 1971. A British soldier is isolated from his unit in the hostile part of the city. Now he must try to stay alive and make it back to his barracks. Knowing who his friends are and who his enemies are turns out to be quite difficult...
Riveting drama. All through the movie the soldier's life hangs in the balance. Behind every corner could be a foe. And just when he thinks he's safe...
Good plot. Not perfect though. Some segues aren't entirely consistent and occasionally things happen more for effect than solid plot development.
While the situation in Northern Ireland is seen from the eyes of a British soldier, the movie is reasonably balanced. The British are far from perfect...
Good performance in the lead role from Jack O'Connell. Good support from Sean Harris.
