Review of 65 (2023) by Tylerlag — 14 Mar 2023
65 is a film with an interesting concept that just falls flat. In the beginning, it attempts to give you some kind of background but then continues to ignore it and dive right in. This would be fine if it was able to deliver an awesome movie of technology vs.
dinosaurs. However, anything that would be enjoyable is put right into the trailer. They try to add a dynamic between a man and a child, but because of a language barrier, it is not executed well. At one point in the film, the character portrayed by Adam Driver hits a dark moment in his life, but it just feels out of place and awkward at the time.
There is no sense of urgency until about the halfway way mark. Unfortunately, when something happens to give urgency, the pacing does not improve. This film is roughly 90 minutes but feels at least an hour longer.
It is such a shame this idea was not executed any better since the concept could've been an awesome action/horror flick.
