Review of 65 (2023) by Jluis_001 — 10 Mar 2023
After the Star Wars trilogy in which he participated, I certainly did not expect Adam Driver to be involved in a production of this caliber again. Particularly when you consider the name he has been making for himself in recent years with more serious roles.
What comes as a surprise to me is that he chose such an unexciting and uneventful story to get involved in the sci-fi genre again. Because even with such a basic script, this had enough elements to produce a funnier and more entertaining movie than the product these two directors ended up delivering.
65 is a film that clearly aims to be a bit more serious in tone than one might expect for a story like this and I have no problem with that, but the filmmakers seem to have overlooked that entertainment was key to going the extra mile.
Adam Driver is clearly committed to his role, but the shortcomings of 65 pull the scales down, as it is clear that the film itself is not a half-baked failure, but it completely lacks the necessary elements to make it the epic it certainly dreamed of being.
