Review of (500) Days of Summer (2009) by Katie B — 23 Jan 2014
One of the greatest love stories I have ever seen. Brilliantly directed, this film also benefited from a great lead character portrayed by Joseph-Gordon Levitt. His character always felt easy to relate with.
He sometimes acted like a child about things but that's all right because who doesn't when they're in love? I admired the film for not delivering a happy ending like most romantic comedies.
This ending felt more realistic. Sometimes there is no happy ending. Sometimes the one you think is the one just isn't the one for you. You may want them so desperately but often times it's just not meant to be.
The use of a non-linear story line was also used to great effect as we were able to see how drastically his opinions of her changed in the course of the 500 days. This is truly a film about love and one of the genre's best.
