Review of 50 First Dates (2004) by Amber P — 05 Mar 2014
This movie in a word is......cute. In two words, it's SUPER cute. I mean REALLY damn cute. That's the biggest, most fun draw to this movie.
In a world where Adam Sandler has sold out to become a massive hack and criminal, robbing audiences of their money while he goes on vacation, it's nice to see that he used to have a soul and creative integrity as shown in this movie. This movie is actually really sweet, especially due to Drew Barrymore's multidimensional, funny yet tragic portrayal of a woman who can't retain any short term memory. She is also the object of Adam Sandler's affection.
As I said before, I honestly used to really like Adam Sandler; he seemed to NEARLY have the potential to be my generation's Chevy Chase. Though, as Harvey Dent said in The Dark Knight "You either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain". I think that completely sums up Sandler's career and descent into corruption lately.
That fact makes this movie all the more tragic, because Adam Sandler is actually taking things so seriously and not just shitting in the popcorn of the moronic, white trash who would be the only people able to stand his later "films". As much as this hurts me to do, I actually.......highly recommend this movie.
