Review of 50 First Dates (2004) by Samantha K — 20 Mar 2015
It really doesn't say a whole lot for Adam Sandler that this is one of the better films he's made, and it's ferociously mediocre. I generally hate the tone of his humour ... it feels like humour designed for bullies and smug assholes.
That type of humour is at a minimum here ... only the dreadfully unfunny jokes targeted at his gender indeterminate co-worker and Rob Schneider's abysmally unfunny turn as a Polynesian really qualify.
Most of the humour in this film is generic romantic comedy stuff surrounding Sandler's romancing of Barrymore and the joke that she can't remember anything. It's basically "Memento" as bland rom-com.
It's not great, but it's not bad and will entertain for an hour and a half.
