Review of 50 First Dates (2004) by Marc-Andre P — 04 Dec 2014
50 First Dates is the first Adam Sandler movie that I seen, and remember liking it. But after watching it, I didn't realize how funny it is. It is your typical romance comedy film, but with a twist.
It could've just made fun of the subject, but it doesn't and goes around it, making it charming. The chemistry between Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore is really good. Adam Sandler is surprisingly funny in it and Drew Barrymore is charming in a cute way.
For Rob Schneider, why play as that type of character? It might offend the type of people who would see this. But to my surprise, he gets a few laughs here and there. Some of the jokes didn't work and was just flat out gross, but there's a lot of funny moments that kept me entertained and interested as the movie has a bit more drama than your usual Happy Madison movie.
Now for the ending, I have a feeling that it's a mixed bag that people might find it either charming, or creepy. I can see it from both sides, and think that it's a bit of both. 50 First Dates could've so much worse with the serious subject, but it's a great movie that is better than most of Adam Sandler films which is saying something.
