Review of 50/50 (2011) by Steve P — 22 Jan 2013
If it wasn't for Joseph Gordon-Levitt this movie would not be worth watching. It's a story (based on the writer's personal story) of a man's journey with cancer and the various family, friends and others who travel with him.
While it is humorous, touching and poignant at times, Seth Rogan's foul-mouthed character jars with the overall tone. The acting doesn't always come across as authentic but the story does attempt a courageous look at the cancer "experience" in a lighthearted way that brings a certain freshness.
If all this sounds like a mixed bag - it is. Worth a look but keep your expectations moderate.
