â'50/50' does at times feel like another mawkish Hollywood melodrama, but it's cynical edge, moments of dark humour, and Gordon-Levitt's calm and accepting approach, fortunately, skims over any potentially contrived pathos, and delivers a fresh and frank examination of internal struggles of a cancer patient.
