Review of 49 Up (2006) by Tom S — 18 Nov 2007
In the 1960s, a British director gathered a collection of 7 year olds from different class backgrounds and all over the Britain and interviewed them about their hopes and dreams. The result was a short documentary called 7 Up (this is presumably before the beverage of the same name became popular), a snap shot of the future of Britain in the year 1965.
Since then, every 7 years, the director has returned to the same set of people, and asked again the same questions about life, love and work. 49 Up is the latest installment. The lives of these people are for the most part unremarkable, but seeing how they have changed over the years is a unique experience.
