Review of 47 Ronin (2013) by Jacob F — 23 May 2014

During the first thirty minutes of the film, my brother - an enthusiast of Japanese culture - complained to high hell the cultural inaccuracies. This faction didn't have those colors, that didn't happen like that, blah blah blah. He's probably right, but it doesn't matter all that much. It's a fucking movie.

The movie looks awesome - if a little to obviously Green screened or CG'ed or - and the action is satisfyingly exciting. The story in a nutshell also perseveres, though suffers slightly from a feeling of being just a little too long. The fatal flaw here, is the stock characters. Stock villain seeking domination, stock love interest in peril, stock brooding main characters, stock witch without motivation. You can't really care for the characters, they just advance the plot. It's a fun movie though. Worth at least a watch.
