Review of 47 Meters Down (2017) by Steven A — 24 Jul 2017

Every summer there will be at least one movie that will suck and unfortunately 47 Meters Down might have been that one this year. 47 Meters Down is about two sisters on a trip to Mexico that goes horribly wrong after an accident that lends them to the ocean floor after they go shark diving, now they are trap in a shark cage with a limited amount of oxygen, and sharks circling around them.

The problem with 47 Meters Down is that it the film felt so rushed at the beginning which I understand because the films budget was tight and they just wanted to get to the plot as soon as possible, however because of how rushed it was the character development was horrible, they made these to main characters so boring, and it made it hard to root for them as the film went on.

Another problem with this film is the reasoning behind why Mandy Moores character decides to go shark diving, I won't spoil for people who want to see it so I will leave it at that. Also there were times in this film were it felt like it wanted to be Jaws (1975) mixed with Gravity (2013).

There were some surprisingly positive aspects to this movie, for instance the film does a pretty good job with suspense, I wouldn't say its the mod intense film ever but its pretty suspenseful, and they did a pretty good job with making you feel as if you are in this cage with these characters.

I also liked how the made blood a recurring element because once a shark smells blood your done. Unfortunately the positive elements of the film did not save the film, however it did make it more watchable.

Theres also a twist in this movie which again I will definitely not spoil and though its not bad it didn't make the film any better. 47 Meters Down is a forgettable film, however if you are a shark fan and/or scary movie fan don't let me stop you from seeing it, you may not think its that bad however just don't expect it to be as good as Jaws.
