Review of 44 Inch Chest (2009) by Jamie C — 05 Jun 2011

Although I enjoyed the performances in this film,John Hurt and Ian McShane especially,I was disappointed overall. It's a very strange film that has more the feeling of a stage play than a movie and would probably have worked much better if it was on the stage.

The story is a simple one,a man is betrayed by his wife and seeks revenge on her lover with the help of his gangster friends. This is mostly played out in one room and involves him and his friends shouting abuse at the lover while he's locked in a wardrobe or later, sat in a chair with a bag over his head.

For the most part they just shout the c word at him and even for someone as desensitised as me I found the use of said word far too excessive. Overall an oddity that I would steer clear of.
