42 is the story of the rise of Jackie Robinson and the reason he became such a beloved sports icon. I think it's great. Now it does get sentimental at times, but thankfully this movie doesn't become sappy.
Chadwick Boseman is great as Jackie Robinson; he looks like the real Robinson and he fills his role with supreme depth. Harrison Ford gives his gruffest old man performance performance here in 42. He's quite fun to watch.
Brian Helgeland does an excellent job at grabbing our emotion throughout the film. And the scene in which the Philadelphia Phillies coach says the N word at Jackie around 40+ times in one scene is quite shocking.
Overall 42 is a home run.
