Review of 42 (2013) by Luis Y — 26 Aug 2013
The sports genre, along with the Horror genre haven't had the best of luck for film recently. It's a real treat to be able to enjoy a good one that comes along. 42 is a really solid film. Mr. Ford and newcomer Chadwick Boseman deliver solid performances as Branch Rickey and Jackie Robinson.
To see what Jackie went through as the first black baseball player is rough to watch. The amount of abuse he took and restraint he showed while taking punishment from fans and other ballplayers made him a stronger man.
While becoming a good ballplayer. Earning the respect from his peers is what he works toward. I love the evolution of his character throughout the film. Hopefully this film continues the sports genre, this film along with "Moneyball" is starting something.
