Review of 42 (2013) by Brian N — 27 Aug 2013
Its definitely a decent film, especially for the baseball lovers out there. It was amazing to see the old stadiums that I wish I could have seen. While a good film it has too many feel good moments. I feel that they sugar coated a lot even if they showed some things.
I feel they could have done more. Jackie Robinson is arguably the most important man to ever play baseball, if not any sport. We remember him as the man who broke the color barrier in baseball, but he was so much more.
Not Babe Ruth, not Ted Williams or Lou Gehrig or any other player has their number retired by every team. Imagine where he would have been had he had a clear and fair chance earlier. I don't think any man put up with what he had to and the film should have showed more so our generation can see our past flaws and never let such behavior happen again.
Too many films sugar coat the bad, our own history books hide harsh facts. None should do such things.
