I read that some were worried about casting Harrison Ford in this movie, for fear that he might overshadow the main character. Those concerns turn out to be well founded, but ultimately it is for the benefit of the movie overall.
Harrison Ford turns in one of his best performances in years in this film. He's gruff, yet charming, and has a great chemistry with Chadwick Boseman. Boseman, for his part, owns his role, as well.
He is strong, yet not overly angry. The movie is pretty well directed, especially the on field action. As for the writing, the N-Word was used so often as to be off putting, but it is appropriate for the time and at times it seems to come from direct quotes.
The script had a few goofy parts (especially the ending that most baseball fans will find unbelievably flawed), and while it may not be Oscar worthy, I was not surprised to learn an Oscar Winner wrote it.
