Review of 42 (2013) by Edwin P — 14 Sep 2013
"42" is elevated from being just another baseball sports movie as it is also a civil rights drama.
The portrayal of the struggles of both Brooklyn Dodgers President Branch Rickey (Harrison Ford), who breaks the color barrier in major league baseball, and Jackie Robinson's (Chadwick Boseman) ascent to that role is very vivid and striking. Both Ford and Boseman play their respective characters with credibility with the narrative focused on not watering down the battles they were faced with.
The costumes and faithful recreation of the 1940's era stadiums gives the film additional weight and authenticity.
