Review of 42 (2013) by Callum M — 18 Sep 2013
I liked Harrison Ford, and there was some interesting stuff here.
But the music, the structuring of the plot, the alternating of scenes of ghastly bigotry with maudlin displays of solidarity and the occasionally hilariously cliched camerawork made me want to vomit a lot of the time.
A shout out to Christopher Meloni, who was the best thing about the film and dropped out far too early for my liking.
And a shout down for the main actor, who seemed hired solely for his ability to stare nobly into middle distance and is so supremely forgettable, I can barely even remember what he looked like.
Also, after The Help told the story of Black Maids in the Deep South and this film tells the story of integration in Baseball in the 40s, it occured to me one could remake this film for practically every profession.
Black postal workers. Black TV hosts. Black Hoteliers. I mean, if there's an interesting angle, fair enough, but hopefully it will be done with some grit rather than this sloppy drivel.
