Review of 42 (2013) by Michael N — 18 Dec 2013
I feel that this movie wasn't too bad. The only real issue I have with it primarily relates to how Robinson was treated during his personal time. Sure they did a decent job of emphasizing that he was a black man playing in a white man sport but I feel that the degree of danger and threats his life had during the time was very poorly done.
I also felt that the movie lacked a lot of bang as I found myself getting easily distracted away from the movie. Even when he would hit homers and get the crowd cheering I felt that it was a bit forced upon.
I feel that to effectively portray a movie like this emotion is going to be your key and I feel that this movie didn't do a very good job on it. Otherwise I feel that acting was excellent especially by Harrison Ford and Chadwick Boseman who portrayed and acted wonderfully for Mr.
Robinson. I would say catch this on a matinee ticket to even a standard night movie ticket to get your money's worth. Even with the lack of emotion I would say this is a movie everyone should at least see at some point.
