42 is a safe, largely positive and uncontroversial look at the life of Jacky Robinson. However, this does not limit its more than palpable emotional punch. This film soars with Chad Boseman's soulful performance as Jacky Robinson, laying bare his internal struggle to remain resilient and human, in the face of virulent racism.
Moreover, Mark Isham's charming and heroic score fills the tensest moments with an adequate sense of foreboding and dread, but still, swirls with brilliance when need be.
