Review of 42 (2013) by Jc E — 29 Aug 2013
You know I want to love this movie since it is the story of am American hero. But there lies my problem with it. Why do our heroes in movies, particularly minorities who are heroes so often get portrayed in such a milquetoast way in film.
Our heroes can't be real human beings? Why are the most compelling characters in this movie the white o es who learn a valuable lesson about tolerance? I will say I did find Harrison Ford's performance interesting because even if I didn't like everything about it he actually gave a performance.
Usually he just growls or acts like some variation of Indiana Jones so that was refreshing. I also think most Oscar predictors are way understating his chance At an Oscar nomination. So overall, like a lot of biopics it was decent but certainly pretty bland.
The most emotional I actually got was when they showed actual pictures of Mr Robertson and when I found out that everyone in based all wears a jersey with 42 on it on a day every year in April.
