Review of 42 (2013) by Dominic O — 31 Dec 2013
It's about a Dodger and I'm giving it 3 stars. That should be enough. In all seriousness though, Jackie's story is more important than a rivalry that has lasted a century and change in Coasts.
Without him there would be no Jordan, no Navarro Bowman, no Kobe or LeBron, and more importantly, no Willie Mays, the greatest baseball player ever. Oh sure someone would've broken the color barrier in sports anyway, but he did it first.
This movie could've been uglier and grittier, but they took the safe route and kept it PG, but the point got across. It was life threatening to be black and play baseball in the 50's. Performances are engaging especially Ford as Branch Rickey, relative unknown Chadwick Boseman has a bright future.
