Review of 40 Years in the Making: The Magic Music Movie (2018) by Tracie L — 20 Oct 2017
Saw this movie at the Woodstock Film Festival and thoroughly enjoyed it. Watching it with a full and engaged audience (many of whom had lived through the 70s the first time as young adults) really helped me experience the era vicariously for the first time.
Clearly a passion project for the director Lee Aronsohn, this story was just so honestly told without any pretense whatsoever. Watching it feels like a pure moment-by-moment discovery and it's impossible not to fall in love with the band.
Seeing them make mistake after mistake and botch opportunity after opportunity was in a strange way actually comforting...In the end, we all take our different paths, but somehow despite it all we get where we need to get in life.
This film was just such a beautiful and honest reflection of that. Really glad this film was made and that these guys' stories were told. The animation is really stellar to boot. Congrats to all the filmmakers.
Can't wait to see this doc again and I'm dying to hear the band again and get the soundtrack!
