Review of 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (2007) by Sam D — 10 Dec 2009
A simplistic, slow moving Romanian film about a woman who helps her friend have an illegal abortion in the late 80's. There were budget restrictions on this film, so there is no special effects to drive the story.
Instead, the story unfolds through a number of powerful, yet subtly moving performances from the two female leads, particularly Anamaria Marinca. A lot of the camerawork is well done, though there are numerous dark shots, filling the atmosphere of the movie with an intensity that seems to lead towards a horrible ending but, this never happens.
Rather bleak, but well done, although rather monotonous at times with the long silences and dark shots.
