Review of 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (2007) by Gabriel K — 17 Jan 2011
I didn't really know what to expect, but I was absolutely fascinated by this movie. Almost everything in it defies convention - it starts and ends mid-sentence (!), the camera work is extremely static (gives you "removed 4th wall" feeling, where you are just a mere observer), the lighting is minimal (almost natural), and complete absence of background music. There's something about the way the story is told... it seems very simple on the surface, but there's just so much going on I don't even know where to begin describing it. Basically it's a day in the life of 2 college roommates, but not exactly a usual day as they are facing quite a challenge. The story is paced like a thriller, the director masterfully creates tension that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I could not get this movie out of my head for days after watching it.
If you like the movie, make sure to watch the director's interview in the DVD extras, he explains several key points about the story and why he chose to tell it this way.
