Review of 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (2007) by Brad J — 03 Aug 2008
Grim, but compassionate and non-judgmental drama about seeking an illegal abortion in Communist Roumania in 1987. Very matter of fact, with longs takes and little incident, but nonetheless thoroughly gripping due to the apparent truthfulness of the script, the quality of the performances and the laconic and restrained camerawork that manages to be both naturalistic and artfully framed, using perspective (rather than editing) to create dynamism WITHIN the shots instead of between them.
Recommended (particularly for those opposed to legalised abortion or viewers who lament the fall of communism.).
