Review of 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (2007) by Andy K — 07 Jan 2010
This film hits you like a rock. You want to turn away, but you can't. It is a grim experience, harsh in the fact that this story is told basically in real time and has a great deal of long shots that add great emotional intensity (the dinner scene with Otilia absolutely gets under your skin). Cristian Mungiu crafts an amazing piece here. His script is brilliant with Anamaria Marinca and Laura Vasilliu mining depths that are beautiful to see even only if they are in very dark places and the miniscule cinematography he employs is very effective in its moments.
Something I will probably never revisit again simply because the toll on the viewer is great, but it is an incredible piece, one I recommend watching at least once.
