Review of 360 (2012) by Hugo S — 02 Aug 2012
Peter Morgan adapts Arthur Schnitzler and Fernando Mereilles directs. What could go wrong ? Well, nothing, but nothing goes right either. There is an interesting concept somewhere in there, but in the end most of the intertwining stories remains trivial and/or useless. I'm guessing the main themes are something like love, relationship, sex and everything that goes with it, but nothing new is said about anything. There is only one interesting characters, Anthony Hopkins as a father who travels from London to Pheonix the identify what might be his missing daughter's body, otherwise it's quite boring.
I'm not sure how Mereilles managed to make one of the best films of the last decade with City of God and follow with less than stellar work. The Constand Gardener was fine, but Blindness and this are just missed opportunities. Gotta give him credits though for not attempting to make blockbuster movies like Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck who made The Tourist after The Lives of Others, or Gavin Hood who went on to make X-Men Origins : Wolverine after Totsi. Mereilles also make his films international, which is also something interesting, but he can't seem to deliver worthy movies. That's a shame. At least his films are well done.
