Review of 35 Shots of Rum (2009) by Dt — 21 Jan 2010
I don´t mind the silence nor the simplicity of the movie. What bothers me about this movie is Denis´ total lack of imagination when it comes to depicting the strong bond between father and daughter.
A smiling daughter (whenever she hears her father come home) and constant! hugging and kissing aren´t the most interesting ways of showing love and devotion on screen and certainly fail to communicate all the negative aspects this kind of relationship provokes like dependency, suffocation and so on.
Nice idea, but in my eyes poorly executed.
