Review of 3:10 to Yuma (2007) by Nick C — 03 Jun 2012
This is one of the better, and only westerns made in the last 15 years. This movie has a few things that make it so good. First of all the story is good. Its straightforward but makes sense. The thing that drives it though is Ben Wade.
He is the character with the "big change", and in the end guns down his own gang as it appears he has become close with this one legged farmer Dan Evans. They do have some sort of bond that is formed that is seen in the final moments in the train station.
Russell Crowe is not someone I would associate with westerns but does really well playing the outlaw gunslinger Ben Wade. Christian Bale is one of the best and most versatile actors around today and once again delivers a performance that is nothing less then perfect.
All the acting really was very good but obviously these two steal the show. Directing was great, and the cinematography was beautiful to say the least. All around one of the great westerns of the last 15 years with Jesse James, True Grit, and No Country For Old Men.
Highly recommended.
