Review of 3:10 to Yuma (1957) by Dc E — 07 Feb 2012
Reviewing My Movie Collection: #1.
Ever since I was a child, I have been in love with The Wild West. I guess that is why I have a soft spot for modern westerns ... and also why I am usually their harshest critic.
A down on his luck rancher (Bale) agrees to help escort a deadly outlaw (Crowe) to catch a train in Yuma. Once there, the outlaw will be tried for a long list of crimes and offenses. The rancher rancher does this for the money, which is needed to help his ranch rebound, and for his son ... who has zero respect for him.
3:10 to Yuma was shockingly brilliant. Before Christian Bale became cliche and annoying, he was actually a pretty good actor and it shows in this film. The dynamic between he and Crowe is nothing short of amazing as the two characters go back and forth between friendship and struggling against eachother for survival.
3: 10 is not only great as far as westerns go, but is great as far as any movie goes.
10 Scale Score: 9.5 ...
