Review of 3:10 to Yuma (1957) by Rory R — 31 Oct 2012
I haven't watched many westerns but this hits the spot, it has everything you'd expect a western to have from heated shoot-outs and relentless mind games. The performance's from both Russell Crowe and Christian Bale are so gritty and engaging that they make the characters ultimately interesting and likeable, and the audience feels connected to them.
The mind games throughout this film keep you guessing and effectively you never know what's going to happen next because Russell Crowe's character is so unpredictable. You can sense that both main characters have met each others match, both for different reasons, one to regain dignity and the other to retain as little integrity that he has.
It's a great story and as you get to the final scenes, it all explodes into this tension filled waiting game ready to turn into a shoot out. Also great performance by Ben Foster playing a slick sharp shooter, who is one of the only loyal person within Ben Wades bandit group.
