Review of 300: Rise of an Empire (2014) by Aodhan R — 04 Nov 2014
It seems very misleading in retelling history, due to it's style of slow motion stunts and fast-paced battle scenes, with incredibly fast editing. Sullivan Stapleton and Eva Green are the new protagonist and antagonist, now that Gerard Butler is absent from the series.
David Wenham should have expanded his role as Dilios, which we all assumed would follow the events of the first 300 straight on, but the screenplay is written as a prequel/sequel to the original. It may be horrifically violent and exciting for blockbuster movie fans - and yeah, I'd have to get my head examined if I didn't like the cinematography, cause the cinematography and production design, along with costume and props, is awesome! It portrays the setting of Greek BC history well, but the tragic downside and worst of all is the acting and dialogue.
Why was it so hard not to make a proper follow up with Wenham in the lead or even a proper prequel with Butler reprising his role as Leonidas! Stapleton and Green portray the worst sort of leads - going from leading armies against one another and a pointless scene were they strip one another and have sex - really what were the filmmakers thinking of making out of that?
