Review of 300: Rise of an Empire (2014) by Eric A — 04 Nov 2014
It fails to be epic when it needs to be and attempts epicness when that is not necessary. A mere distorted shadow of the original, an Ephialtes of a movie, equally treacherous. The photography is blurred and terrible, and the script is too dumb for such an adult movie.
It fails to follow up on the original 300, having a major character such as Queen Gorgo so out of character and acting as opposed to what she should be doing. If the action scenes of the first 300 were strong and impressive, in Rise they are just dull, violent and pointless.
The movie actually makes you beg for a quick death. Here is a quote from the original 300 movie about the sequel's filmmakers: "Amateurs, they make a wondrous mess of things".
