Review of 300: Rise of an Empire (2014) by Atheer O — 07 Mar 2016
The tale of the 300 Spartans that followed Leonidas to Thermopylae is one of my favorite historical events. The Battle of Marathon and the surrounding Greek history is something I've read a lot. So this movie was a large disappointment on a few levels.
They at least kept some of the history (relatively) accurate. My real issues were with the film itself. I have no problem with gore, but when a small cut drops a gallon of blood on the ground it starts to get a little outlandish.
The style of the film wasn't completely horrible, but it was a jumbled attempt to recreate the beauty of storytelling found in its predecessor. It misses the mark. And for God's sake, don't buy it. Not worth it.
