Review of 300: Rise of an Empire (2014) by Silver Screen S — 23 Sep 2014
For the most part, this film works, and it's because this film isn't attempting to be profound, or impact you in some way. It simply wants to provide a good time, and there are quite a few things it does right.
Strong female characters in a movie that could easily be all about the men, well thought-out filmography, and evocative imagery combine to craft a noteworthy film experience. The film does suffer a bit from a static main character, weak script, and some strange blood effects, but the acting is pretty great, and this group manages to somehow make you invest.
History buffs that don't mind some embellishment or people looking for an interesting time at the movies could find this well worth a watch.
