Review of 30 Minutes or Less (2011) by Ross B — 20 Jan 2012
This film has so much promise but it just never lives up to its potential. Jesse Eisenberg stars as Nick, a slacker pizza delivery boy, who is kidnapped by two crooks named Dwayne (Danny McBride) and Travis (Nick Swardson) in order to make him rob a bank for them.
They ensure that Nick will do what they say by strapping a bomb to his chest with a timer on it. These two criminals plan on using the money they make to pay a hitman named Chango (Michael Pena) to kill Dwayne's dad so that he can get the inheritance that he is owed.
Nick enlists the help of his best friend Chet (Aziz Ansari) to help him accomplish this plan and save his life. You would think that a movie that included Jesse Eisenberg, Danny McBride and Aziz Ansari as well as directed by Ruben Fleischer (who previously directed Eisenberg in Zombieland) would be funnier.
Most of the film's jokes though fall flat on their face. There are flashes of good humor but sadly they are few and far between. I wish that this movie was better than the product that it is and I feel like it could have been.
