Review of 30 Minutes or Less (2011) by Jamison R — 26 Nov 2012
Every once in a while, there comes a film so dull and lacking, that it makes you feel bad when you see them practically begging for jokes. "30 Minutes or Less" is a perfect example. The film follows two slackers who kidnap a pizza delivery boy so they can get him to rob a bank so they can get $100,000 to pay off a hitman to kill one of their fathers to collect an inheritance.
Sounds like a really good idea for a comedy, right? What could possibly go wrong? Apparently, everything. The film throws as many f-bombs into the dialogue that you start to feel uncomfortable by their presence, and the dialogue isn't any where near as witty and clever as it thinks it is.
The acting is pretty bad, which is a shame since it wastes Jesse Eisenberg and Danny McBride. The action is, well, not exciting. The pacing and plotting is so off, it never settles on action or comedy (not there is any laughs to be had).
The only reason this got one star was because of Fred Ward as the old, grouchy military father. He has some funny lines, but even those only manage a chuckle. There are plenty more better, funnier films to be seen.
It would be wise to spare yourself the 85 minute runtime and opt for something else.
