Review of 30 Minutes or Less (2011) by Genevieve R — 31 Dec 2013
A movie where the slackers are both the heroes and the villains.
It was pretty funny and interesting to watch, but there isn't that much to it in terms of plot. What is the moral of this? Try your best to outsmart the psychopaths who try to screw up your life? Everyone is trying to screw you so be prepared? Nick doesn't really learn anything and it doesn't say whether he finds any purpose in his life, whether he gets a better job, whether he decides to date Chet's sister, etc. There was no purpose to the events in the movie; they just happened and they entertained us for a while. There isn't even a purpose to making everyone in the movie some kind of slacker. I guess they just thought that would be funnier?
Danny McBride seems like a Seth Rogen knockoff. I think they wanted Dwayne and Travis to be like Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly in Stepbrothers, but it wasn't nearly as funny.
I can't say it wasn't entertaining, so I'll give it that at least.
